MEET THE FACULTY
Mrs.
Beth Fowler (B.F.) - Creative Dance, Ballet, Pointe,
Jazz, Lyrical, Tap
Mrs. Fowler established the Beth
Fowler School of Dance in 1983, at the age of 15.
She has a great love for children, which shows in
her teaching. Students are eager to learn, as the
programs are both enjoyable and self-rewarding. She
established the Beth Fowler Dance Company (a
professional group of dancers) in 1994. Dance
Company Productions include "Cinderella", "Sleeping
Beauty", "The Firebird", "The Wizard of Oz", "Paquita",
"West Side Story", "Grease", "Fame" and annual
performance of "The Nutcracker" (also featuring the
dancers from the dance school) all performed at
DeKalb's Egyptian Theatre.
Beth
Fowler danced professionally as a principle dancer
with the Rockford Dance Company, Judith Svalander
Dance Theatre and the Milwaukee Ballet. She has
developed dancers that were accepted with the
Joffrey Ballet of New York City, Milwaukee Ballet,
and many that received college scholarships for
dance.
Shana Flatland (S.F.) - Tap,
Ashley Flatland (A.F.) - Creative Dance, Boys Class
Shana started dancing as a child with Lisa Bohem.
She continued dancing as an adult with Beth Fowler
and has been a teacher assistant in dance classes
for Beth Fowler since 1998. She has been praised for
her ability to win the hearts of children while
keeping control and structure in her class.
Shana's daughter, Ashley, has also been dancing and
assisting Mrs. Fowler for almost 10 years. This year
Ashley is teaching and assisting Creative Dance and
the Boys' Class.
Janelle Bergin (J.B.) -
Creative Dance, Jazz, Tap
Janelle has been dancing with Beth Fowler for the
past 8 years. She has danced many lead roles in our
productions. She is a soloist with the Beth Fowler
Dance Company. She has been praised for her ability
to bring out the best in her students as she pushes
them to reach the highest of their individual
abilities.
Randall Newsom (R.N.) - Ballet
Randall has performed and choreographed for
companies throughout the world, including the Irish
National Ballet, Repertory Dance Company of the
Southwest, Louisville Ballet and was co-artistic
director of Cycles Dance Company (Great Britain). He
is a specialist in the renowned Benesh Movement
Notation System. He frequently guest teaches and
reconstructs the standard classical ballet
repertoire for many Midwestern dance companies. He
is a member of Actors Equity Association and the
Benesh Institute in London. He was a recipient of
Northern Illinois University's Excellence in
Undergraduate Teaching Award in 1987-88. Randall has
been the Director of Dance at Northern Illinois
University for the past 25 years.
Dimitri Peskov (D.P.)
Peskov is the co-artistic director of
DanceLoop Chicago, a professional contemporary
dance company. He is a dance panelist with the
Illinois Arts Council and a member of the dance
faculty of College of DuPage. He has performed with
Chicago Ballet, Chicago Festival Ballet, Salt Creek
Ballet, DanceLoop Chicago, and for several years
acted with Borealis Theatre. Currently Peskov is
dancing with Joel Hall Dancers in Chicago and
performing for the internationally renowned
choreographer, Paul Sanasardo. In addition to
choreographing for DanceLoop Chicago, Peskov was
commissioned to set new works for Cerqua Rivera
Dance Theatre and Joel Hall Junior Company, both in
Chicago, for Without Shoes Dance Company in
Rockford, and for Nash Dance Theatre in Moscow,
Russia. According to Chicago Tribune, Peskov is
"Bold. . . brave and feisty,. . . an original
emerging dancemaker. . . like Nijinsky. . . who
takes the art form to another level without losing
sight of impeccable technique or emotion."
Tamera Newquist (T.N.) - Jazz,
Lyrical
Tamera has been dancing with Beth Fowler since 1992.
She started teaching and choreographing for Mrs.
Fowler in 2000. Her choreography has been featured
in our productions of "West Side Story," "Grease,"
"Dancing thru the Decades" and in the Battle scene
of our annual production of "The Nutcracker" to name
a few. Mrs. Newquist is a natural teacher with over
20 years teaching experience. Students love her not
only for her teaching abilities but for her fun and
outgoing personality.
